Looking Forward to Spring

What a wonderful realization that spring is finally on the way. The ice and slush will soon be gone and be replaced with green grass and leaves.

What is so wonderful about spring is the anticipation of the season of new life that is on its way, we know what to expect, and what beauty it holds.

Yet, since we look forward to this annual season, shouldn’t we also look forward to a greater season of life that has been promised to those who love Christ?

This season has been prepared for all those who have received forgiveness for their past life through Christ. We know spring is coming because we saw it last year, so we know what it is like. But we don’t fully understand what lies beyond death’s door, because we have never died before.

It is solely because Jesus Christ died and rose again, proving that there is life after death, that He could say, “Whoever believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” Note that Jesus didn’t say “believe on Me”, but “believe in Me.”

There are a lot of people that believe “on” Jesus, that is, they believe His moral teaching, or ethics. Unfortunately, that is a far cry from believing “in Him.” For believing “in Him” means accepting Him as who He claimed to be, accepting that He is the one and only means of salvation. It means that we accept the truth that our sins have separated us from God, and that unless we ask Him to personally forgive us, we face an eternity of separation.

Though I don’t know when I shall be taken from this earth, I do know that He has prepared for me a new life, a season of blessing. This is not due to who I am or what I have accomplished, but to what He has accomplished for me when He paid for my sins on the cross.

We can look forward to spring, and the great things it holds, yet if we believe in Christ, we can also look forward to the blessings of another season, one of the new life that awaits us and all who love the Lord.

The best season is yet to come.
