“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me”
(Matthew 28:18)
Most people understand that one of the most frustrating aspects of the workplace is knowing changes must be made, but not having the authority to make those changes happen. Yet, authority should only be given to those who can be trusted, and to those who have proven themselves in their position. With such great authority also comes great responsibility, and often not everyone can handle the demands of such authority.
When Christ appeared to the people after the resurrection, He declared that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him by His father in heaven. It is important to realize that, “all authority” does not mean partial authority, but rather complete and total authority. Jesus has authority over everything to the most minute level, and the reason He has such authority is because of the position He holds – a King.
Our Lord Jesus is King over all; over everything that occurs in heaven; and over all that happens on earth. We may not always see this, nor understand how or why this occurs, but in our world of chaos, it is true. In the middle of all the confusion and apparent contradictions of our lives, Jesus is Lord and King, ruling over every detail of our lives today, in perfect undisturbed majesty.
We must not become frustrated, feeling overwhelmed by our problems, feeling as if defeat is only a moment away. As a child of the King, our hope is established in the reality of the resurrection of Christ, and upon the fact that He now maintains the position of a king over all. And as such, our prayers have power as they are brought before the One who has authority to answer them. Therefore, do not become discouraged today when you look at your situation, but rather place your trust in the One who alone is able to help you with your daily needs, for He has the authority to change what needs to be changed, and He loves His children with a sacrificial love. You are precious to Him and He cares for you today. Therefore, spend some time with Him and lay your burdens at His feet, for He has the authority to deal with every concern of our heart.
