Now, O my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
(2 Chronicles 6:40)

We are told before we do any strenuous exercises, we should first spend some time warming up. The reason for this is to prepare our bodies for what follows, otherwise we might pull a muscle and fail to do our best.

In just the same way, there needs to be a spiritual warm up before each and every time we try to read, study or examine God’s Word.
Too many people open the bible only to skim across some random passage, leaving them to wonder why their efforts failed to help them with their struggles.

Yet, the writer of the verse above knew the secret to turning darkness into light, to turn these old words into heart-piercing, convicting, comforting medicine for the soul.

The Bible is God’s word, given to encourage us and reveal a genuine source of hope for us, and that is a relationship with Jesus Christ and grace that He provides to carry us through our day.

Therefore, open the bible and remember the verse, and pray, quoting “Lord, open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your Word.” And, indeed, the eyes of your heart will find the message of God’s word as a cool spring to quench your thirsty soul.

Listen to the Spirit as He reveals the tenderness of the Saviour’s promises upon your life, calling you closer to Him. For when we prepare ourselves to seek Him, the Lord will honour His word and our prayer, and He will reveal Himself to us, with a message that is what we need today to keep us encouraged and close to Him.
