Who Is In Control?
“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it”
(Psalm 24:1)
How big is God? It is that question that is the basis for our beliefs in who God really is. Is God some super human that tries to do good and yet is unable to; a God simply limited in His ability to control the events of this world? Or, is He God Almighty, who can and does control all things to every extent?
As the threat of wars around the world continues, we must look again at this question. Otherwise, as Christians, we won’t know how to react to this present problem. We will trust in politics or the might of man and yet the Lord warns us, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:5)
The verse above states quite clearly that God not only created this world, but that He also controls all aspects of events. Therefore, it would be foolish to turn away from Him and place our trust in mankind. Often this is hard to see and understand, yet many times in the Bible we see how God used nations to bring about His perfect plan.
He controlled the leaders of countries and the outcome of their actions. And, just as He has done in the past, so is He doing today. Our Lord is in complete control of Europe, Asian and every conflict; He has not lost any of His rule. It is this fact that is the basis of our confidence, trust and hope.
How then do we react? How are we, as Christians, to pray? The answer must be the same as what is stated in the Lord’s Prayer; “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven”. Nevertheless, we must continue to pray for peace, and for the soldiers and their families. And, pray for our leaders that they may have the wisdom that only God can provide. Pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of what their nationality is, that the Lord will use them to be a bright light for Him.
So, rest assured, God is still in control, and He does all things for His glory. Meanwhile, pray that our nation returns to Him and pray for a great movement of God among the peoples of these conflicts.
